Who is this article for?

  • Store Managers & Owners customizing the register screen to match store workflows and device screen sizes.
  • Front-of-House Staff & Cashiers seeking an intuitive, color-coded, or text-optimized layout for faster order taking.

About the Layout View

Every business runs at a different pace, and your Point of Sale interface should reflect how your team actually takes orders. EPOS360 allows managers to personalize the visual design, grid density, and landing screens across tablet and mobile devices. Tailoring these layout configurations removes friction for cashiers, helps front-of-house staff identify top sellers instantly, and accelerates checkout speed.

Before you begin

  • Ensure you are logged into an account with permission to modify register screen settings.
  • Layout settings are device-specific. Customizing grid ratios, default sell modes, or display toggles on a mobile handset or tablet terminal applies strictly to that specific hardware unit. Repeat layout adjustments across other registers if uniformity across terminals is desired.

Configuring Layout View (Tablet)

💡 Best used for: Designing custom item card sizes, reordering product groups, and assigning visual color codes on tablet registers.

  1. Access Edit Layout: From the main Checkout screen, tap Actions in the top-right corner, then select Edit Layout from the drop-down menu.
  2. Reorder, Group, and Color-Code Categories: When the Edit Group options appear, customize your categories using the following actions:
    • Reorder Categories: Tap, hold, and drag a product category to move it up or down your menu list.
    • Apply Color Coding: Select a category and choose a dedicated display color for fast visual recognition.
    • Combine Categories: Merge multiple distinct categories into a single unified category group.
  3. Resize Product Icon Tiles: Adjust individual item tile sizes to a 1:2 or 2:4 ratio. Use larger tile ratios for high-volume items or top sellers so cashiers can select them quickly.
  4. Confirm Layout Changes: Once all adjustments are complete, tap the blue Save button in the top-right corner to lock in your new layout.

Configuring Layout View (Mobile)

💡 Best used for: Setting default landing screens, adjusting grid column density, and toggling item image visibility on mobile handset terminals.

  1. Navigate to Layout Settings: Tap More (four-square icon on the far right of the bottom navigation bar), scroll down to select Settings, then tap Layout (Configure layout on the sell screen).
  2. Define Your Primary Sell Mode: Under the Sell Mode section, select the primary default interface that opens whenever the Sell tab is tapped:
    • Amount: Launches directly into the digital keypad interface for quick custom pricing (e.g., economy rice or variable pricing).
    • Item: Launches directly into your structured visual category menu grid.
    • Code: Launches into the alphanumeric keypad for typing quick order codes (e.g., SF1).
    • Table: Launches directly into your active dining table floor plan layout.
  3. Adjust Grid Items Per Row: Scroll to the Item Layout sub-section and select your preferred grid layout density:
    • 1 Item per row: Formats items as a vertical list view (ideal for long item names or text-heavy menus).
    • 2 Items per row: Displays menu items as balanced, larger tiles (optimal for standard mobile screen sizes).
    • 3 Items per row: Displays a tight, condensed grid (optimal for larger handsets or compact handheld terminal hardware).
  4. Toggle Item Image Visibility: Locate the Display Item Image toggle switch:
    • Slide ON to display full image graphics on menu tiles for visual navigation.
    • Slide OFF to hide images and utilize space-saving, text-only buttons.
